Hi,

i just wanted to ask the students/pupils among you for their plans! What will you do after you finished school or graduated from an institution kind of?

I´m currently visiting a german Gymnasium and will go for biologie, special subject virology. Hope to get a job in one of the famous institutes for tropical diseases.

I´d appreciate you to post your plans, too!

PS: If you find one or more mistakes (profound or not) please correct me! thx!

Hmm... planning for my future is one of those activities I usually postpone on another day. However, I certainly haven't definitely decided what to do after school yet.

Actually, I'm looking forward to a 6 Month stay in New Zealand. I even could attempt a University, what would make me start living there. I wouldn't mind, of course :D, but there are lots of things to consider before even thinking of living there.

But beside this, my further life is absolutely not-yet defined.

Currently I'm studying Computer Science, particularly Computer Networking at the University of Applied Science (Fachhochschule) Furtwangen.

I hope to develop some network related software at some big company when I have finally graduated.

I've got absolutely no idea.

Well, I once thought about becoming a cop, but I am pretty sure that I won't match the FGR's image of a loyal democrat.

So, why shouldn't I visit the university? I thought about history as subject. But maybe I should study something with future...

Argh, this question sucks ;D

I want to become a pornstar, moviestar or popstar!!! D:
...

Ok, talking seriously:
At present I don't really know what my A-levels will be like. If they're good enough, and if I am not totally pissed off by going to school, I might think about joining a university. Although my A-levels are not too far away, I'm quite indecisive. One of my favorites is something in the sector of geodesy, as well as becoming a network admin (yes, I like being pretentious ;)).

To me, a good job demands at least some fun. It must fit your personal interests, of course... For example, I couldn't imagine becoming a pack mule, or a workaholic manager with 16 working hours a day, 7 days a week :)
Whatever... I don't want to say I am lazy (although I have to admit I am) ;D ... A job I am really interested in is more important than any money you offer me for a job I don't like. And there's the work climate, which must be at least o.k. so I'm not becoming an psychic cripple =)

Any corrections - of course - welcum ;)

Of course, think most wanna be one;)

Well, i got nearly the same opinion about it! But I also want at least enough money to go on a holidaytrip every year. It hasn´t to be far away. Two weeks to Denmark in autumn or something to chill out, you know?

Wish you good luck for getting a job you always wanted!;)

Of course, although my top priority is good food and a nice flat where I really feel "at home" (somewhere you can chill out nicely) :) ... Of course I would never pick a job where I earn so few that I have to sleep under bridges... even if it was my dream job ;)

Wish you good luck for getting a job you always wanted!;)

Thanks, same to you... won't be easy for both of us, but we will make it =)

And there's the work climate, which must be at least o.k. so I'm not becoming an psychic cripple =)I am pretty much the exact same opinion. But sometimes you've gotta do a job you don't like (i.e. to earn money for living). Right now I am working here in Hong Kong almost 9 hours a day and almost every saturday halfdays. But that is close to normal here. My job is not always fun, but I know that it will help me to come closer to my aim.

I want to study here (http://www.cityu.edu.hk/scm/program/bacm.htm), but the fees are very, very high. So my next step will be: going back to Germany and work there for about a year to earn money for the study fees. Another problem will be, that they have to accept me, but setting steps is a good help to actually reach your aims.

Oh yeah, and I see that you HAVE aims, which is also a good step. A lot of my (mostly female)schoolmates do not know what they want to do and just study anything.

Of course I also whish you guys all the best to get the jobs you want! :)

You´re actually working in HongKong? Don´t wanna be indiscret but where are you from? And do you speak their language?

You said you wanted to return to germany to work for a year, therefore i suppose u speak german?^^

And one more question: what are u going to study?

Hi Lunar!

Yes, I am working here since more than two months allready as a video editor. Today is saturday, and as almost every saturday I have to work, because I need to finish that project which is quite big.

Here (http://80.237.203.42/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&postid=1440857#post1440857) I told where I am from.

And if you want to know what I want to study just click on the link in the post above yours. ;)

@Shao-Domi (@"Here" *g*)

Sounds interesting!O_o.....as far as I know all of my family lives in Germany. At least of my <real> family!
You´ve been born in the us? So you speak English, German and Chinese perfectly, don´t you?

Gee....kinda depressing!^^ I speak German quite well but my English mostly sounds like a mix of Chat-slang, school-english and the briefing of a shooter-game~.~.....
that´s why i use some terms like "tire one" etc.

Well, don´t want to go on your nerves;) hf

You're not going on my nerves at all, I'd rather say that it's quite interessting. But where did I say that I've been born in the US? I was born in Germany and lived there for ost of my life.

Yesterday I've been to the City University of Hong Kong. My plans is, working for 1 1/2 years in Germany to earn money to pay the fees, make a good DVD with two languages and subtitles (I am making a video here in Hong Kong, six tapes are full already. :) ) and send it as a portfolio to two univerities. Well, and hope that at least one of those will except me. :)

Sorry, my mistake!^^
What kind of video are you making? Rather a movie or a "sight seeing"-tour through HongKong something completely else? *g*

Maybe I´ll change my plans for future. Got a flyer from the german Commando Specialforces (KSK, hope to have translated it properly) and now I´m unsure what to do. Studying is a nice thing, but this sepcialforces have always been a dream.....I´ll see!;)

Sorry for interrupting... I think its rather difficult to get into the KSK, you must have some skill ;)

To study is a nice thing, when you go on with a job or sth else you can be quite happy, but some day you come to a point that you cant go further anymore. So you wish yourself back to the date you could decite to go to study or not...

@ShaoDomi, I am almost every month in Hong Kong, travelling from Taipei to Shenzhen, Wuhan or Shanghai. I quite like the city, have been there around 20 times the last year but still dont know anybody...

Well, if you come to Hong Kong one before February 4th we can meet up for sure, and then I introduce you to my friends so that you know somebody in Hong Kong. ;) If not, I might be back in 1 1/2 years, so that's the time for another try. ;)

I am actually making a private video, but I long planned to make a puplic video for my friends in my message board (forum.casemodder.de). It will be something like a documentary. I'll keep you informed when it's done.

Lunar,
(KSK is a name, therefor you cannot translate it. ;) ) it is really hard to get into the KSK. But if it really is a dream of you, you should think about it and ask your friends and your family. Choose your way wisely, because it is the way of your future life.

You wanted to go to Germany to earn some money, right? Dont you think this is in Asia easier? Since you also speak german you could easily find a good job in Taipei or Mainland China. Its so easy to make some money here... I was quite surprised two years ago. I have a friend who quit study in Germany and will come for half a year or year to Taipei, think its a great experience to get back on the feets ;)

Well, I just speak Cantonese, also I want to stay in Hong Kong, and lots of people don't have work there. It is quite hard to make money in Hong Kong, I guess that I can earn more in Germany. Also I want to be with my friends and family before I leave them for three years (or maybe longer ;) ).

Guess you know the best for yourself ;D

Which part/city in Germany you'll stay?

I know HK is a hard place to get jobs. You had a boom there once, but HK is long not as good as befor, and surely totally overrated like Shanghai. But a nice city to stay for a weekend for sure ;)

I live in Kassel (exact middle of Germany), I was also born there, but I went to Hong Kong many times and also went to the Kindergarten for a few months.

Hong Kong's economy keeps on falling. There have been better times before. But right now I don't waste any thoughts on that, I just want to enjoy my time here. :)

I´m currently studying romanic philology (spanish) as well as nordic philology (including the Old-Nordic language and Swedish). My third subjekt is logic and sciencetheory, but I guess I´ll drop that in near future (Not that I have visited that much of the lessons  )

I don´t exactly know what I´m going to do after the years of studying, but i think that beeing able to speak or read 8 (swedish, spanish, english, german, french, old-spanish (spoken in some regions of Cono Sur), Old-nordic (well not spoken any more, exept for some freaks including me) latin, and bavarian ;D ) languages isn´t a bad start.

Well... lets see if I get the plan to work :)

Well, I graduated from a University of Applied Sciences as a Computer Scientist this summer. Right now I'm enrolled in the two-year Computer Graphics graduate program at the University of Utah.

I definitly want to do my PhD, but I'm not sure whether I'll transfer to the UoU's PhD program, or do my PhD in Germany or elsewhere.

I want to go to a college in Alabama once I'm done with school in Germany. I'm right now attending the 12th grade. I hope to be done with school in the summer of 2007. I'm already saving all my money for my college education, since it's going to be pricey. We shall see....

Well, do you think about going there for your undergraduate 4 year Bachelor or for 2 years for an associate degree?

Most of the time, the undergrads pay for their tuition themselves, but there might be chances that you can get a teaching assistantship to get your tuition waived and/or a salary to cover you living expenses. This is normally only possible for undergrads that are in their last years, though when you are doing well, you could do this possbly also as a undergrad.

Usually, the graduate students (Masters and PhD) get either one of those teaching assistantships or a reasearch assistantship, so the work on campus for their professors to fund their studies.

You could apply for a scholarship, like Fulbright, DAAD, Studienstiftung ... to get funding.

Btw, why Alabama? Are there some good universities in your field of interest? Or do you like the area and/or have relatives there?

Hi,
can anybody tell me the difference between Phd and Bachelor/Master,something comparable to German degree?

ScottManDeath
2005-11-26, 02:41:17
Bachelor: 4 years, after High School <==> slightly less than Diplom(FH)
Master: 1.5 to 2 years, after Bachelor <==> Diplom (Uni)
PhD: 5 years, usually after Bachelor, but also after Master <==> Doktor

Nope, those stinky German/European Bachelors take 3 years. This short Bachelor leads to problems for German students wanting to go to grad school in the US, as the Bachelor here usually takes 4 years. Though my university offers a combined BS/MS program, so that after 5 years, you get your BS and MS, saving around a year.

I'm studying International Business Administration in Germany, right now i'm doing my semester abroad in Newcastle/England. It's a great place to be and I could really think of working here. I would also love to go to Asia after my studies, as the job prospects are much better over there :-)

I still do not know which job I would like to do, I cannot tell you anything about my plans...

Finishing the 10th class graduation, the Abitur and then... I do not know, perhaps something in the domain of IT or business or something else like law.

Well...I started going to school in the UK a year ago and will finish this year. Then I will study there ....Politics&Economics.

I dunno wot im gonna do in future...but there are lots of interesting options I have, especially as my English ought to be rather good once i finished my bachelor.

If there's anything that IS useful, then studying in an English-speaking country...
