MOIN

The Setup
I recently purchased twin 74GB Raptors to test them in various configurations on my new Gigabyte 8KNXP (rev 2) mobo (with native ICH5R support for RAID 0).
The Tests
I ran the following tests on each configuration:
1. WinXP Pro install
2. HDTach
3. Sandra
5. WinBench 99
6. Office 2003 install and usage
7. Visual Studio.NET 2003 install and usage
8. Various file access tests
9. OS cold boots
The configurations I used:
1. 120GB Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 SATA
2. Single 74GB Raptor
3. 2 x 74GB Raptor in RAID 0 (native ICH5R, with 128K stripes)
The Results
I don't have data points for all tests in all configs, but close ...
** WinXP Pro Install **
- 120SATA: no data
- Single Raptor: 40:27
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0: 9:00
NOTE: Time disparity no doubt helped by the 15 second "normal" format in RAID 0 - the controller must not need a true format done. Times compared separate from formatting: 9:00 vs. 10:45
** HDTach **
- 120SATA: (max/min/avg MB/s) 67/32/48, CPU 2.4%
- Single Raptor: 73/29/64, 3.1%
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0: 106/35/72, 2.9%
** Sandra **
- 120SATA: 32279
- Single Raptor: 44832
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0: 83720
** WinBench 99 **
Did the Disk Access Time, Disk Playback/Business, Disk Playback/High-end, and Disk Transfer Rate tests.
- 120SATA:
Business Disk WinMarks: 5020
High-end Disk WinMarks: 24000
Transfer rate: 58200-33700
Disk Access Time: 14ms
- Single Raptor:
Business Disk WinMarks: 10200
High-end Disk WinMarks: 32400
Transfer rate: 71800-53800
Disk Access Time: 8.1ms
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0:
Business Disk WinMarks: 19000
High-end Disk WinMarks: 49000
Transfer rate: 143000-108000
Disk Access Time: 7.9
** Office 2003 Install/Usage **
- 120SATA: 7:34 install, first time opening Word = 5 secs
- Single Raptor: 3:01, first open 3 secs
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0: 2:31, first open < 1 sec
NOTE: "Typical" install, rather than "Full"
** Visual Studio 2003 Install/Usage **
- 120SATA: 42:45, first open 4 secs, first project 11 secs
- Single Raptor: 31:04, first open 2 secs, first project 5secs
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0: 27:30, first open <1 sec, first project 3 secs
NOTE: Yes ... VS takes that much longer than the OS. Sad.
** Image Browsing in PaintShop Pro 8.1 **
Odd test, I know ... about 1.1GB of small to large images, about 65,000 individual files, scattered over 20 folders in a shallow directory.
- 120SATA: :54 secs
- Single Raptor: : 30 secs
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0: :19 secs
** OS Cold Boots (NTLDR execution onwards) **
- 120SATA: :45 secs
- Single Raptor: :22 secs
- 2xRaptor/RAID 0: :17 secs
ich hoffe man kann hier klar erkennen dass schon eine Raptor ein wahrer Genuss ist
:D
(vor allem wenn man bedenkt das die SATA vergleichsplatte eine sehr schnelle neue Maxtor DP9 ist
