AMD Announces Plans to Relocate Austin Operations to Barton Springs Watershed
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced on Wednesday, April 13th, its intention to move most of its Austin operations - and 2,000+ employees - to the fragile Barton Springs watershed. AMD has plans to go to Stratus' "Lantana" development off Southwest Parkway. View image of the site here.
Why Should AMD NOT Locate at Lantana or elsewhere in the Barton Springs watershed? (click here for more info on Barton Springs and the Edwards Aquifer )
Community planning efforts for decades have sought to steer major employers downstream of the watershed
Pollution would be created during and after construction of a large campus, plus oil and grease from added traffic
Move would encourage other businesses to locate near AMD
AMD's 2,000+ employees would look for homes in the Barton Springs watershed, spurring additional development
What Can You Do to Help?
Contact AMD's CEO Hector Ruiz and other top AMD officials here.
Write Mr. Ruiz a letter asking him not to move AMD's operations to the Barton Springs watershed. His address is 2305 Barton Creek Boulevard #16, Austin, TX 78735-1650.
Mr. Ruiz states on AMD's website: "Caring for the community is a strong corporate value at all our sites worldwide, because we believe the health of our company is directly related to the health of our communities."
If Mr. Ruiz is serious about what he says, AMD should respect the health of Barton Springs and the Austin community and NOT relocate 2,000 employees to the Barton Springs watershed.
