As we all know, NVIDIA does support the Linux community with their very best. At least the drivers for their graphics cards work flawlessly.
But it seems, that this is not enough for them. Quite a few minutes ago two NVIDIA employees appeared in wine's IRC channel.
Wine is a tool that allows us to run Windows applications under GNU/Linux. They do a great job to also make games to run properly. One word can describe their big problem: DirectX. The implementation make slow progress.
To come back to the topic: Those two developers seem to make the community to get aware of their big plan. An excerpt of our logs:
[...]
16:53 - Zan: We decided to invest more work and money in supporting Linux gaming in general.
16:53 - Zan: As this market ist growing fast we decided in constributing in wine.
[...]
16:55 - Zan: Our plans include shipping pre-compiled libraries to affect DirectX handling in wine.
16:56 - Rit: In other words: We would like to give you native support for the DirectX API, so that you can invest your time in other compatibility issues.
[...]
"This is great news", so the reaction of the lead developers from winehq.org. And they are right, as this does mean to us much much more games to be running with wine.
//EDIT: This is (of course) a fool
