Kein chicka-boom mehr, simpel instrumentierte Stücke über denen Cashs immer noch einmalige Stimme thront, deren Verfall man von Scheibe zu Scheibe miterleben kann.
Ebenso beeindruckend ist die Tatsache dass die Reihe zu einem Großteil aus Coversongs besteht, daran müsste beinahe jeder scheitern. Cash jedoch lässt solche Zweifel bei seiner Interpretation gar nicht aufkommen, die Songs wirken wie für ihn geschrieben.
Die früheren Sachen fand ich schon immer gut, aber erst mit den American Recordings hat Cash seine wahre Größe bewiesen und sich für mich unsterblich gemacht. Möge er in Frieden ruhen.

Wo soll der Unterschied zwischen "Power-Synphonic" und "Melodic" Death Metal sein?Sonata Arctica ist Power Metal, und hat mit Melodic Death eigentlich nichts am Hut. Typische Bands des Melodic Death oder des Gothenburg-Stils sind beispielsweise At The Gates, Arch Enemy, Kalmah, Insomnium, Nightrage, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity oder Amon Amarth.

Unter dem Titel Pagan Metal laufen bei mir meistens mehr oder weniger melodische Black Metal Stücke mit "heidnischen" Texten, die teilweise mit leichten Folk Elementen versetzt sind. Hat also auch nicht viel mit den anderen erwähnten Genres gemeinsam.

Klar, es gibt keine klar definierten Genregrenzen, aber als Stichwörter und Suchhilfe erweisen sie sich oft als sehr hilfreich. Einfach Querbeet durchhören, bis man eine neue interessante Band findet, ist wohl nicht sehr effizient.
