Just tried it again and it seems to suck these days.

I.e. 3dmark2001 Natur drops from 50 fps down to 20 fps. At the beginning of this demo I get usually 38-42fps. With 3dstereo its 16-20 fps. (I have a GF3Ti200@240/480 10000 3dmark) Also there is no depth in the trees. The same applies to BF1942. All the trees are flat. Not to mention the croshair.

I remember from the old days (1999) with EverQuest and SystemShock2, DeusEx 3dstereo was great. (btw, with a patch of EQ in 2000 also the flat objects appeared. Is that the WBuffer?)

Has someone recent experience with 3dstereo and is it worth to investigate?

Bye,

Simon.

Stereo3d is only as good as it has been taken care of by the game developers. e.g. weapons in some 3d shooters are just flat textures - so those weapons just cannot become stereo'ed. Same with the crosshair. (I doubt a crosshair will ever become a real 3d model, it's just senseless)
If somethings flat (read: not-stereo'ed), then this is just because it's no real model but a texture.

So you ask if it's worth anything these days.
I think everybody has to answer this question on his own :)
Current games don't usually got those "mistakes" (regarding stereoability) of texture-only models, simply because current hw is fast enough to render several ;) polygons more, than some years ago.

I myself like Stereo3d, but can't use it any longer than perhaps 30 minutes at once. At least Q3 roxx in Stereo =o)

BTW: the nvidia detonator drivers got a feature to enable a "stereoish" crosshair ;)

Try to play a little bit with the "stereo separation" (i think it´s called something like that) option from the control panel.

It´s normal that enabling stereo view cuts down your fps to half, because every frame has to be rendered twice (once for each of your eyes).
