Ursache für das Verhalten ist TabMixPlus und wurde bereits in der neuesten dev-Version (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/versions/) gefixt.

Mich wundert grad etwas die unterschiedliche Größe des Downloads über Autoupdate. Bei Win 8.1 hab ich von 34.0.5 gut 18 MB runtergeladen. Bei Win 7 und Version 34.0 waren es 46 MB.

Ich schätze es wurde (temporär) entfernt, weil es im Moment nicht kompatibel mit Firefox ist.

Gibt schon etliche Threads dazu im Diskussionsforum

Wollte mal fragen ob das Problem einer kennt. Und zwar habe ich zum Test mal Waterfox installiert. Hat alle Einstellungen usw. von Firefox übernommen. Wenn ich nun Firefox starte wird überall wo sonst Firefox im Menü stand Waterfox angezeigt. Also wenn ich auf Updates prüfen gehe und sonst auf "Über Firefox" klickte steht jetzt "Über Waterfox" da. Auch wenn ich Waterfox deinstalliere bleibt das alles so. Habe auch Firefox neuinstalliert, was aber nichts änderte.

EDIT: Wär ich mal früher drauf gekommen die Sprachdatei bei den Addons von Waterfox im Firefox zu deaktivieren, hätte ich mir mein Post sparen können. Jetzt steht wieder überall Firefox da. Problem also gelöst.

35.0.1 fixed das explizit.

Fixed: With the Enhanced Steam extension, Firefox could crash

In der FF 36 scheint es auch gefixed zu sein, jedenfalls ist das Addon nach kurzem Test noch nicht aufgefallen und FF nicht abgestürzt.

Laut diesem Kommentar wurde es für Release, Beta und "Aurora" gefixed.
